Food Allergy
Food allergies are incredibly common and becoming more common. We do not yet know the reason for this but it is an area of active research. Management of food allergies involves assessment and skin testing to confirm the cause. Sometimes you may also need a blood test. Once a cause is confirmed, it is necessary to avoid the implicated food. While it may be obvious that a certain food is the cause, the skin and blood tests can give crucial information that can be used as a comparison 1-2 years down the track when it comes time to see if a person has out grown their allergy.
When you are assessed, our doctors will perform investigations to determine the cause so that you can avoid the food and give an action plan to manage an attack if it recurs. Patients with asthma are at an increased risk of severe reactions, so it is usual that you will also be asked to have a breathing test.
